Desde los años 70, esta industria cinematográfica se conoce como “Bollywood”, una mezcla entre Bombay (hoy Mumbai) y Hollywood, la capital del cine estadunidense.

Ram-Leela cuenta la historia de En un pueblo de Gujarat, llamado Ranjaar, vivían dos clanes que habían sido hostiles entre sí durante décadas. Los dos clanes son Rajadi y Saneera. Tanto Rajadi como Saneera tienen dos hijos. Y en los dos hijos menores de los dos clanes, comienza la historia de Ram-Leela.
El día de Holi, Ram, el hijo menor de Rajadi, vino desesperadamente al lugar de Saneera para celebrar el Día de Holi. Fue entonces cuando conoció a Leela, la hija menor de Dhankor Baa, líder del clan Saneera. Ram y Leela se enamoraron el uno del otro. Desafortunadamente, el asesinato de dos hijos mayores de Rajadi y Saneera hizo las cosas aún más complicadas. Los dos decidieron fugarse, lo que desafortunadamente fue frustrado por los cazadores de sus respectivas familias.
